Enhancing the State Library Administrative Agency Survey Through Support and Innovation
The State Library Administrative Agency (SLAA) Survey collects data biennially from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The survey covers a wide range of topics, including governance, public service hours, service outlets, collections, library service transactions, library development transactions, services to other libraries in the state, allied operations, staffing, revenues, expenditures, and electronic services. With these data, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)—as well as the Chief Officers of State Library Agencies—can illustrate how these agencies serve the people and public libraries of their states.
How AIR Supports the SLAA Survey
AIR supported IMLS in administering and analyzing the SLAA Survey from 2012 to 2017 and again has been doing so since 2023. Our team has designed and implemented questionnaire revisions to align the SLAA Survey content with the Public Libraries Survey, and we have improved the functionality of the SLAA Survey web interface that states use to submit their data. AIR facilitates stakeholder input to ensure the continued relevance of the SLAA Survey to the field.
