Chris Herzog
Chris Herzog has more than 20 years of experience in workforce development and education. Herzog’s expertise lies in leading teams to conduct research and to develop national, state, and regional technical assistance that effectively support the development of strategies to align workforce, education, and economic development efforts.
Herzog leads and advises workforce development initiatives for federal agencies, national foundations, and industry partners. Current roles include project director for the Energy Industry Sector Strategy How-To Guide for the U.S. Department of Energy through Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory; project director for the Built Environment Talent Futures research initiative funded by the Bechtel Foundation, focused on talent development across architecture, engineering, construction, and design ecosystems; technical assistance team lead for the Living in Victory Substance Use Disorder Workforce Development Program; and coaching team lead for the U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration (ETA) Nursing Expansion Grant technical assistance effort. She has also served as a coach for seven northeastern states under ETA's State Apprenticeship Expansion technical assistance initiative, co-developed the Office of Apprenticeship's Apprenticeship Professionals Learning Network, and directed AIR's work supporting New Jersey's Industry Sector Partnerships.
Herzog is a recognized expert in workforce development strategy, with deep expertise in registered apprenticeship, industry sector partnerships and sector strategies, career pathways, workforce system governance, and technical assistance delivery. Her work focuses on helping public agencies, workforce boards, employers, educational institutions, and intermediary organizations design and implement talent development strategies that strengthen workforce ecosystems and expand economic opportunity.
Prior to joining AIR, Herzog served with the New Jersey State Employment and Training Commission and was a research project director at the John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development at Rutgers University. She also brings private-sector experience and has taught political science courses at Washington State University.
