Supporting Workforce and Healthcare Training Through H-1B and Nursing Grants
Addressing workforce shortages through sustainable employment and occupational training programs is an important strategy for improving health and economic outcomes.
AIR and its partners provide programmatic and performance management technical assistance (TA) to help U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Employment and Training Administration (ETA) grantees achieve their goals. AIR partners with Social Policy Research Associates to support the H-1B One Workforce and H-1B Rural Healthcare grant programs. AIR also partners with Social Policy Research Associates and Mathematica to support the DOL Nursing Expansion Grant Program.
Our technical assistance strategy includes:
- Customized coaching to help grantees address challenges and strengthen implementation strategies;
- Peer learning opportunities, including monthly calls and discussions on promising practices;
- Tools and resources for planning, assessment, progress tracking, and participant support; and
- Quarterly performance monitoring to identify challenges and provide targeted support.
AIR supports three grant programs:
H-1B One Workforce Grant Program
This program helps develop scalable workforce strategies that prepare workers for middle- and high-skilled occupations in information technology, advanced manufacturing, and transportation.
H-1B Rural Healthcare Grant Program
This program addresses healthcare workforce shortages in rural communities through sustainable employment and training programs, including behavioral and mental health occupations.
Nursing Expansion Grant Program
This program helps address nursing workforce shortages by expanding training capacity, increasing the number of nursing instructors and educators, and creating career advancement opportunities for frontline healthcare professionals.
The H-1B grant programs are funded through fees paid by employers that hire foreign workers under the H-1B nonimmigrant visa program.
