Sophia Arredondo
Sophia Arredondo is a technical assistant specialist at AIR with experience in projects related to youth, family, and community development. She is responsible for providing specialized direct assistance and training to local educational agencies (LEAs) impacted by community violence to expand their capacity to implement community- and school-based strategies that help prevent community violence and mitigate the impacts of exposure to community violence. She also provides technical assistance to local communities, states, and nonprofit organizations for projects that benefit low-income persons living with HIV/AIDS and their families. In the area of integrated violence prevention, Sophia provides training and technical assistance on multiple forms of violence to state and local health departments and domestic violence coalitions to achieve program-specific requirements and engage in a comprehensive, cross-cutting approach to violence prevention.
Sophia has over 15 years of experience establishing, implementing, and advancing programs in school and community settings and nearly a decade of direct experience providing training and technical assistance to state and local education agencies, enhancing their capacity to promote positive school climates, ensuring safe and supportive learning environments for all students.
Prior to her role at AIR, Sophia the lead a multi-dimensional effort to implement district and state mandates related to 2SLGBTQIA+ students, including anti-bullying and harassment, fair and inclusive representation of diversity in instruction, and student rights in California’s second largest school district. She most recently lead the education and youth programing for a national education organization championing LGBTQ+ K-12 education.
