With complex education funding streams, states have an increased need to ensure that all proposed interventions and strategies are evidence-based, cost-efficient, scalable for various contexts, and effective in serving the various needs of all students.

The California Department of Education (CDE) is collaborating with the West Comprehensive Center to develop budget proposals on priority topics for possible inclusion in the state budget plan.

West CC will support the CDE by:

  • Serving as a strategic thought partner to leadership and staff;
  • Synthesizing research and cross-state evidence to inform proposal design, ensuring that identified strategies are anchored in proven models and current evidence; and
  • Conducting targeted analyses of policy options and implementation strategies, helping assess tradeoffs, feasibility, and alignment with state priorities.

Through these collaborative efforts, the CDE will be better equipped to design, justify, and implement strategic state investments that improve student outcomes for students across the state.
