The Center for STEM Education Research and Translation, funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation, supports those working to improve PreK-12 STEM education teaching and learning.
The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) has amassed an impressive body of knowledge about improving PreK–12 STEM teaching and learning. Continual efforts are needed to ensure this research is both informed and used by STEM practitioners in classrooms.
We are excited to work with NSF and our partners at SREB and USC to build intentional energy and commitment around responsibly moving STEM education research, evidence, and innovations to and from classrooms.

The Center for STEM Education Research and Translation, funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation, supports those working to improve PreK-12 STEM education teaching and learning. NSF-funded research in this area advances PreK-12 STEM teaching and learning and improves understanding of education across the human lifespan and a range of learning settings.
The Center aims to strengthen the translation of STEM education research evidence and innovations to and from PreK-12 STEM learning environments by:
- Facilitating connections. Bringing researchers, educators, and organizations in the PreK-12 STEM education community together so they can connect, share ideas, and work toward improving STEM education.
- Deepening capacity. Helping community members build the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to develop strong research ideas, submit competitive proposals, and carry out PreK-12 STEM education research aligned with NSF priorities.
- Building visibility. Making it easier for PreK-12 STEM education community members to find, use, and learn from one another’s NSF-funded work by elevating the visibility of NSF PreK-12 STEM education investments.
AIR leads the Center in close partnership with NSF and two partner organizations: Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) and the University of South Carolina (USC).
