Social Studies Curriculum Review Landscape
States and national organizations in the field of social studies education are more frequently and seriously considering what high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) look like in social studies.
This report, prepared in partnership with EdReports, seeks to provide context for the current landscape of social studies curricula to highlight the need for HQIM in social studies. It serves as a starting point for discussions on identifying HQIM and a guide for the development of social studies curriculum review tools, evidence guides, and training materials for potential use by states and districts.
We examine five main components, including:
- Legislative efforts impacting social studies education;
- Curriculum products;
- Curriculum marketplace;
- Curriculum review tools; and
- State conditions
