School Management Committees/Parent-Teacher Councils

This report describes successful interventions taken by the Revitalizing Innovating Strengthening Education (RISE) project in promoting community participation in school management in four earthquake-affected districts in northern Pakistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir. The recommendations, based on the project’s four years of experience in the project districts, can inform the work of agencies that seek to encourage the participation of communities to improve educational opportunities for children.

This report shares best practices and lessons learned in mobilizing communities to increase their engagement with and support to their schools through the formation or revitalization of 2,300 School Management Committees and Parent-Teacher Councils. Contributions made by these local institutions and their capacity to continue to play a key role in the promotion of quality education in their communities after the completion of the project are examined.
