Translating Research to Practice
AIR worked with the National Center for Language and Culture Research (NCLCR) to translate and market commissioned academic research into usable products to support the performance of government language professionals. The primary research agent was the University of Maryland Center for Advanced Study of Language (CASL). CASL’s mission is to conduct state-of-the-art (basic and applied) research in language and culture for government language professionals.
AIR advised NCLCR, the government program management office responsible for the CASL research, on the best mechanisms and methods (media relations tools, databases, etc.) to share their research with government language professionals. We identified the appropriate target audiences who would most benefit from CASL’s research and recommended a communication strategy. AIR also created products, such as job aids, high-level briefings, articles for inclusion in government publications, an e-newsletter, etc, to disseminate the CASL research to various audiences.
