AHRQ Patient Safety Improvement Corps (PSIC) Training Program Evaluation

Developed in a joint effort in 2003 by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the Veterans Administration’s National Center for Patient Safety (NCPS), the Patient Safety Improvement Corps (PSIC) is one of the largest federal patient safety initiatives. The PSIC training program is based on a systems approach to patient safety and the prevention of errors. AIR has supported AHRQ and NCPS in the evaluation of this training program by conducting a cross-sectional study of training transfer and spread. Results from surveys administered to PSIC participants and their organizational leaders, as well as from site visit interviews conducted with a selection of six states, provided evidence for the spread of training resources and increased awareness about patient safety.
