Jodi Jacobson Chernoff

Principal Researcher

Jodi Jacobson Chernoff is a principal research analyst AIR. Dr. Jacobson Chernoff’s expertise is in early childhood assessments, including the ability to select and evaluate child assessments for their developmental appropriateness, choosing items and writing protocols for assessing very young children and interviewing relevant adults, training assessors and maintaining quality control while collecting assessment data. Currently, Dr. Jacobson Chernoff is applying this expertise as Instrument Development Lead for two projects: the Welcome Baby Impact Study funded by First 5 LA and Let’s Talk About Math, funded through the AIR Fund. 

Dr. Jacobson Chernoff serves as the development and operations coordinator on the International Study of Early Learning conducted by the Organization of Economic Co‑operation and Development (OECD), advising the National Center for Education Statistics, United States Department of Education. She is also one of the senior researchers working on the Middle Childhood Longitudinal Study sponsored by NCES. Dr. Jacobson Chernoff currently coordinates all activities on the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study–Kindergarten 2011 program as well as assisting in the development of surveys for parents, students, teachers and administrators, training materials and protocols for field staff, and assists in developing accurate documentation.

Dr. Jacobson Chernoff was lead researcher on the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Birth Cohort. She also served as assessment task leader on a recently completed project with the Heising-Simmons Foundation, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, and First Five California to evaluate the effectiveness of California’s new transitional kindergarten program.
