Women in Government Relations Honors AIR Executive Vice President Diane Pelavin’s Contributions to Education
Washington, D.C. – Diane Pelavin, executive vice president of the American Institutes for Research (AIR), was one of three individuals honored by Women in Government Relations at an evening event celebrating “Women Trailblazers in Education” on November 15, 2010 at the Australian Embassy in Washington, D.C.
Women in Government Relations, a nonpartisan government relations association, paid tribute to Pelavin, Gail Connelly, executive director of the National Association of Elementary School Principals, and Susan Frost, vice president of The Sheridan Group.
The event, “Lessons from a Lifetime of Leadership: Celebrating Women Trailblazers in Education,” included a panel discussion featuring the three honorees, who shared their experiences and insights with an audience made up of a broad cross-section of the education community.
“Education research is vitally important to all of us,” Pelavin said. “We need to conduct research within a meaningful framework so the knowledge that we gather serves as a reliable resource for policymakers, teachers and parents. I am grateful to have been able to make a small contribution to the overall effort to improve people’s lives and well-being, especially the disadvantaged.”
Diane Pelavin began her career teaching English to high school and middle school students, before becoming a research analyst. As executive vice president of AIR and Director of its Division of Applied Behavioral and Social Sciences, she has directed a broad range of education research projects, including congressionally mandated research involving vocational rehabilitation, studies of programs serving people with disabilities, and various school improvement efforts.
