Capitol Hill Briefing on Effective Principal Evaluations Includes AIR Expert Matthew Clifford

Washington, D.C. – Dr. Matthew Clifford, a principal researcher at the American Institutes for Research (AIR) and an expert on school leadership, evaluation and professional development issues, will join other leading experts in discussing principal evaluations during a briefing on Capitol Hill on Thursday, September 13, 2012.

The briefing, "Rethinking Principal Evaluation: A New Paradigm Informed by Research and Practice," is sponsored by the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) and National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and will examine key elements of effective principal evaluations as well as implications for education policy.

The briefing will be held in the Senate Visitors Center, U.S. Capitol (Room TBA), in Washington, D.C. from 10:30 a.m. to Noon.

  • Matthew Clifford, Principal Researcher, American Institutes for Research

Dr. Clifford’s research and evaluation interests focus on the improvement of school leadership, as a means of improving instructional quality and student achievement. He manages multiple research and evaluation studies designed to determine the effectiveness of professional development and evaluation efforts to improve principal quality. He also consults with school districts and states on the design of principal evaluation systems through AIR’s National Comprehensive Center on Teacher Quality and the Center on Educator Compensation Reform.
