Sudie Whalen

Senior TA Consultant

Sudie Whalen is one of the leads of the Adult Education Research and Technical Assistance Center (AERTAC). She currently serves as the California Adult Literacy Professional Development Project (CALPRO) senior training advisor. She previously served as the ADVANCE Integrated Education and Training (IET) project director and the Literacy Information Communication System (LINCS) director of online learning. 

Whalen serves as a subject matter expert and trainer in the following areas: adult career pathways, collaborative team-building—professional learning community and community of practice development and sustainability, career technical education instruction, IET, adult learning theory (andragogy), and student motivation and persistence. 

Before working at AIR, Whalen was the lead Career Technical Education (CTE) teacher at Liberty Adult Education Center in Brentwood, California.

In 2016, the Office of Correctional Education in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation embarked on a process of implementing professional learning communities (PLCs) in all 35 California state prisons. AIR provided professional development and consulting on the PLC process.
