Orrin T. Murray

Principal Researcher

Orrin T. Murray is a principal researcher at AIR. His primary responsibilities include overseeing the research practice partnership for the Regional Educational Laboratory Midwest (REL Midwest). He is the principal investigator on a U.S. Department of Education EIR evaluation of Austin Independent School District’s implementation of culturally responsive and restorative practices, and leads work at AIR in the areas of equity, culturally responsive practices, data visualization, design thinking, learning technologies and the use of machine learning to support improvements in practice.

Prior to AIR, he managed the technology infrastructure and led the research and development efforts for the UChicago Impact unit of the Urban Education Institute at the University of Chicago. As a learning scientist, he has overseen the design and development of curricula and tools used by educators across the country. He also worked on the development of a curriculum to improve resilience in teachers and students that has been used by Teach for America.
