Aleksis Kincaid

Aleksis Kincaid leads research and technical assistance projects focused on literacy, multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS), and data-based decision-making. He partners with states and districts to translate research into practical tools and strategies that support effective instructional practices and system-level decision-making.

He has served as the principal investigator for major initiatives aimed at improving literacy outcomes and scaling effective interventions. Dr. Kincaid leads Read & Achieve, a national study of a middle school reading intervention, and previously served as the partnership lead for the Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) Midwest Strategies to Improve Reading partnership, where he supported districts in implementing evidence-based instructional practices in early literacy. He is also an author of the Providing Reading Interventions for Students in Middle School (PRISMS) toolkit developed through REL Southwest. In addition, Dr. Kincaid leads the review of academic screening and progress monitoring tools for the National Center on Intensive Intervention and provides technical assistance to states and school districts on selecting assessments and interpreting results through the development of educator-friendly guidance materials.

Prior to joining AIR, Dr. Kincaid worked as a school psychologist and MTSS lead, served as an adjunct professor in the school psychology department at the University of Wisconsin–Stout, and conducted graduate research focused on refining an early literacy screening tool for preschoolers.
