Prioritizing Equity in Post-Pandemic Academic Recovery

On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, AIR convened a panel of experts for a discussion on prioritizing equity in post-pandemic academic recovery.
Educators, policymakers, and families need access to evidence-based strategies and solutions to equitably address ongoing learning challenges made worse by the pandemic. Federally funded programs have made resources available in most states to help identify and implement supplemental learning programs and interventions, including social and emotional learning programs.
Although these resources are helpful, there is an enormous burden on educators and other decision makers to choose which programs work best, for whom, and under what circumstances. To provide much needed support to the field, an unprecedented number of active data collection and evidence generation efforts are underway. For these efforts to truly bear workable and equitable solutions, it is crucial to understand what educators truly need and who needs the most help.
During the event, leading voices in the field of research discussed several initiatives, including COVID-19 and Equity in Education, Road to COVID Recovery Project, and the PreK-12 Research on Education Strategies to Advance Recovery and Turnaround (RESTART) Network.
