Keeping Schools and Communities Safe: Using a Context-Sensitive Approach to Build Readiness to Prevent School and Community Violence
The National Institute of Justice created the Comprehensive School Safety Initiative (CSSI) to improve knowledge about the root causes of school violence, develop strategies to increase school safety, and rigorously evaluate innovative school safety strategies. To support CSSI, and in partnership with Arizona State University, the Wandersman Center, Dawn Chorus Group, and a group of nationally recognized school safety experts, AIR conducted the ReSOLV study (Research on Lowering Violence in Communities and Schools).
On October 24, 2023, the ReSOLV team discussed results from this seven-year longitudinal study examining the risk factors within and across individual, school, and community contexts that underlie the root causes of violence and challenge the readiness of schools and communities to respond with appropriate and effective prevention solutions. The session will present independent results from rural and urban study locations.
