ESSA │5. Supporting Excellent Educators
In this section, SEAs that intend to use funds under one or more of the included programs for certification and licensure systems, educator preparation program strategies, or educator growth and development systems, must provide a description with the necessary information. In addition, each SEA must provide information regarding resources to support state-level strategies around specified topics and how it will improve the skills of educators to identify and serve students with specific learning needs. Finally, each SEA must provide information about educator equity including defining equity terms, reporting equity gaps, identifying likely causes of the most significant equity gaps and the strategies to address them, and describing timelines and interim targets to eliminate all equity gaps.
AIR works in a number of areas to develop effective educators including supporting education practitioners to better prepare, recruit, develop, and retain great educators for all students. Our staff work to achieve solutions to complex policy and practice problems and to support effective approaches that help teachers thrive. For example, through our role in the Center on Great Teachers and Leaders, our team has prepared an online library of free resources on a range of topics such as educator preparation, professional learning, and educator equity.
