The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the Department of Defense (DoD) have worked with AIR since 2002 to identify best practices and set the standard for medical team training. A major result of this partnership was the development of TeamSTEPPS™ or Team Strategies and Tools for Enhancing Performance and Patient Safety. Since the release of TeamSTEPPS™ in 2005, AHRQ and DoD have received numerous requests for the curriculum, as well as guidance on how to implement it. To address this demand, AHRQ and DoD have teamed with AIR to launch the National Implementation of TeamSTEPPS™.
Working with Carilion Clinic, Creighton University Medical Center, Duke University Medical Center, University of Minnesota Medical Center and the University of Washington Institute for Simulation and Inter-professional Studies, AIR has built a national corps of Master Trainers at numerous health care institutions. AIR supports the national rollout of TeamSTEPPS™ through webinars, a toll free hotline, an annual national meeting, and the development of new resources such as the recently released TeamSTEPPS™ curriculum for Rapid Response Systems and Dental Settings. Information on TeamSTEPPS™ and the National Implementation can be found at teamstepps.ahrq.gov.
