Donna Warthan is a senior technical consultant at AIR. Her primary responsibilities include managing the overall project and budget for four federal School Improvement Grant projects in Virginia and New York. In this work, she assists the district and schools in corrective action use data to develop concrete action plans for improvement and works with school leadership teams and district staff in monitoring instruction and achievement performance. Dr. Warthan also provides leadership training and support to states for the Center on Great Teachers and Leaders and the Midwest Comprehensive Center. Dr. Warthan's other work at AIR includes leadership development and coaching, Quality School Leadership Identification (QSL-ID) training, providing review and feedback to states in the design of school improvement supports for their ESSA consolidated plans, and superintendent coach and trainer for AIR’s principal observation system.
Dr. Warthan has extensive experience in professional learning communities, training school leaders on actionable, instructional feedback to teachers, the effective use of data, district and school improvement planning, and developing and implementing progress monitoring systems. Prior to joining AIR, Dr. Warthan served as a classroom teacher, instructional specialist, and school principal, with substantial knowledge and experience working with Title I schools and transformation initiatives.
