The major goals of Title I funding are to provide services to children in low income families and to support school districts with large numbers of poor children. In 2015 ESSA mandated a report examining the distribution of Title I funds to better understand how the current formulas affect various types of school districts—large and small, poor and wealthy, urban, and rural. AIR conducted this report with the National Center for Education Statistics.

Young adults (aged 18–39 years) who have received a cancer diagnosis can encounter significant barriers in their transition to employment. This study explored to what extent these young adults know about legal and programmatic supports that may help to address their employment-related needs, and how they would like to receive information about available resources.

As part of its Pay for Success work, AIR developed a workaround to common data obstacles these projects face. AIR was contracted to develop the evaluation design for the San Diego-based Project (re)Launch, which sought to improve employment and health outcomes for veterans with service-connected disabilities by providing intensive case management and wraparound supports.

October is Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that, during the 2012-2013 school year, about 22 percent of students ages 12–18 reported being bullied at school during the school year. As more is being learned about the negative psychological and physical effects of bullying, researchers are focusing on how to address the problem. The research and resources featured here relate to efforts to prevent violence in schools and help young people feel safe and supported.

One way to ensure that all students have equitable access to well-prepared, effective teachers is to establish evidence-based systems that clearly articulate the competencies a teacher must possess to be successful in educating all students to high standards. To support educators of English Learners, the Council of Chief State School Officers empaneled two working groups composed of SEA leaders, district leaders, and staff, AIR, and Education Northwest. These working groups integrated attributes characteristic of effective teachers of ELs and exemplars of effective instructional practices for ELs into two widely used teacher evaluation and support systems.
