The Pay for Success (PFS) model, also known as the Social Impact Bonds model, is a relatively new way to finance improvements in persistent social problems. PFS brings together investors with local, state, and federal government agencies to fund and improve education, health, and social services. AIR is implementing this approach in many communities around the country.

Cultivating Oral Language Literacy Talent in Students (COLLTS) is an early childhood language program that promotes the development of pre-reading skills, oral language proficiency, and background and conceptual knowledge through the use of interactive reading with high-quality children’s literature. The COLLTS method was created by researchers with over a decade of experience in developing literacy curricula for bilingual and low-income students in the United States.

Data from large-scale international studies reflects the nested structure of education systems and is, therefore, very well suited for hierarchical linear modeling (HLM). However, because this data comes from complex cluster samples, there are methodological aspects that a researcher needs to understand when doing HLM, e.g., the need for using sampling weights and multiple achievement values for parameter estimation. This course teaches participants how to do HLM with data from these studies, including PIRLS, TIMSS, and PISA.
