A growing number of school districts are using early warning systems in their strategy for improving rates of student on-time graduation. The study used student-level data and a five-step process to identify the most accurate indicators of students’ failure to graduate from high school on time.

The Instructional Technology Initiative (ITI) is the Los Angeles Unified School District’s signature investment in technology. Originally planned to provide technology devices to every teacher and student in the 640,000-student district, ITI aimed to transform learning throughout the district by providing interactive and engaging learning environments, supporting implementation of the Common Core State Standards with digital curriculum materials and assessment, and ensuring that all students have access to 21st century technology. This report is intended to provide formative feedback to inform district plans for re-envisioning ITI, based on the first two years of implementation.

To study the effectiveness of using an online course to broaden eighth graders’ access to Algebra I, AIR and the Education Development Center performed the first rigorous evaluation of the impact of an online course on student outcomes. This three-year study examined the effects of offering a fully online Algebra I course to eighth-grade students in mostly rural schools in Maine and Vermont.
