A randomized controlled trial (RCT) is a way of doing impact evaluation in which the population receiving the program or policy intervention is chosen at random from the eligible population, and a control group is also chosen at random from the same eligible population. Self-help group programs are the most popular development intervention to stimulate women’s empowerment in South Asia. In partnership with Touro University, AIR conducted a mixed-methods systematic review to determine the impact of women’s self-help groups on empowerment.
