Usability Test Sample

Research studies and years of experience suggest that running usability tests with 8-10 test participants is optimal for most situations.

Despite the relatively small sample size, such tests generally yield reliable user feedback on the quality of designs and the opportunity for improvement.

We conduct tests with more participants when:

• The user population is especially diverse
• Statistical validity is required as a basis for
  making credible marketing claims
• We are comparing two products whose
  performance differences are likely to be small.
