Job Analysis

Job analysis is the process of systematically identifying the responsibilities, activities, and tasks performed in specific jobs and then identifying the required knowledge, skills, and abilities employees need for successful job performance. We have conducted thousands of job analyses for professional, management, skilled trades, and clerical occupations. We are experienced with all job analysis methodologies, including task analysis, critical incidents, interviews, and surveys. Among our notable job analysis efforts are the following:

  • O*NET: AIR participated in the development of O*NET, the job classification system used by the U.S. Department of Labor. O*NET replaces the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) and provides comprehensive and up-to-date descriptions of key occupations in the nation’s workplace.
  • Video Job Analysis: In an organization undergoing severe downsizing, AIR scripted and filmed a "visual" job analysis that captured the essential elements of several jobs that were to be eliminated. Job analysis information was filmed, indexed, and stored on a CD-ROM, so that images could be accessed quickly.
  • Skills Analysis: AIR has created occupational information systems using skills-based information. These systems provide decision makers with an effective way to describe, catalog, and understand the full range of human capabilities within their workforce and to access essential skills needed to maximize organizational performance.
