Faculty Issues

The role of faculty in higher education is undisputed. Even with the growth in online courses and distance education, faculty themselves must develop and direct these efforts. At the same time, faculty salaries are the largest single educational expenditure of colleges and universities. The ways in which institutions of higher education attempt to deal with the competing pressures of holding down educational costs while providing students with a high quality education is the focus of much of AIR’s work on faculty. Through reports for the National Center for Education Statistics and papers presented at professional conferences, AIR’s work demonstrates its broad understanding not only of faculty issues but also of the higher education environment in which they work.
