Database Construction and Management

We build databases by extracting information from existing computerized information systems prepared by an employer or directly from paper source documents. Databases that are frequently used in employment discrimination cases include:

  • Employee History Database: A summary of key events in the career progression of employees, including entry into the workforce, promotions, work assignments, pay increases, and departure from the workforce. This database is used to track the day-to-day status of employees over long periods of time.
  • Applicant Flow Database: Summary information about the applicants for particular positions within the workforce, including which candidates passed each step in the selection process. This database is used to determine the relative success of groups of applicants in proportion to their representation in the applicant pool.
  • Qualifications Database: A summary of applicants’ qualifications for particular jobs including education, training, work experience, and specialized skills. This database is used to determine whether individuals or certain protected groups have comparable levels of relevant job qualifications.
