Community Mobilization

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has made a commitment to improve health and to eliminate health disparities as stated in the goals of the Nation's health agenda and Healthy People 2010. Despite improvements in overall health for the majority of Americans, the burden of disease continues to disproportionately affect certain groups of the population. For instance, some groups may have less access to care or receive unequal treatment due to factors such as language differences, lack of insurance, and cultural barriers. AIR is working with the DHHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) and other organizations such as the National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) to decrease cultural and language barriers to health care, to strengthen organizations, and to mobilize communities towards prevention and better care.
