Tammie Knights is a principal technical assistance consultant at AIR. Currently, she is director of the National Charter School Resource Center, which provides on-demand resources, information and technical assistance to support successful planning, authorizing, implementation, and sustainability of high-quality charter schools; to share evaluations on the effects of charter schools; and to disseminate information about successful practices in charter schools. Knights has extensive history in new school creation and teacher development and coaching.
Before joining AIR she was a coordinator for Baltimore City Schools’ Office of New Initiatives where she managed the approval and evaluation process for all operator run schools. This included opening 13 new schools in four years under a district-led transformation schools initiative and supporting the work to open 12 charter schools in the same time frame.
Previously, Knights served as a middle school principal in both Baltimore and Memphis as part of the New Leaders for New Schools program. Prior to that she was the charter program director for Teach For America in Atlanta, where she was a key member of the team that grew the corps of teachers from 55 to 200. She began her career as a middle school teacher with the Teach for America program in Baltimore.
