Sanjay K. Arora is a senior data scientist at AIR. His primary responsibilities include producing original theory, analysis, and research outputs in his area of expertise, innovation policy and management. Sanjay is a recent recipient as co-principal investigator of a National Science Foundation EAGER award, which seeks to examine and quantify the strategic orientations of small firms using unstructured text and other data from their websites.
Dr. Arora’s formal training is in information systems and public policy; he has applied skills in data management, information modeling, text analytics and visualization, and cloud computing. He has published on the research and commercialization of nanotechnology in the U.S. and abroad; his empirical work uses a wide variety of sources and incorporates new forms of media, including websites and social network data. Generally, Dr. Arora is interested in employing and improving the accuracy of computational methods to answer social science research questions.
Dr. Arora’s other responsibilities include program development for a health communications platform and data science related work for two health policy projects. He is also a key team member on PatentsView, a project sponsored by the USPTO to improve the utility and availability of patent data for research and digital innovation purposes. In this role, he has led two other junior staff members to produce well-conceived code and concise documentation.
Previously, Dr. Arora was an Enterprise Architect and Manager in Ernst & Young’s Financial Services Office, Strategy, Growth and Transformation. He has also worked for IBM Global Business Services and JSTOR, the not-for-profit digitizer of scholarly journals.
