Andrew Wayne, Ph.D.

Senior Research Analyst

Dr. Andrew Wayne recently joined AIR as a Senior Research Analyst. In his previous job at SRI International, he directed a study for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and served as deputy director for an evaluation of federal spending on educational technology. He also coauthored a report for the U.S. Department of Education on teacher's use of technology which included a quasi-experiment on the influence of technology-related professional development on teachers’ knowledge and practices. In the area of mathematics education, he led an evaluation of a foundation-sponsored professional development intervention for mathematics teachers called QUASAR. He has also served as a middle and high school computer science teacher.

Much of his work has focused on teachers. His field experience includes collecting data from teachers in a wide range of educational settings, from alternative certification programs to charter schools, to rural and urban school districts. He recently published a review of quasi-experiments on the effect of teachers on student achievement and served on an advisory panel to the RAND Value Added Methodology project. He served as Associate Director for a study of alternative certification programs and contributed to the design of an impact evaluation of teacher induction programs for IES. His current projects at AIR include the What Works Clearinghouse and an evaluation of the Transitions to Teaching Program, which focuses on teacher recruitment, training, and support.
