Andrew Rose , Ph.D.

Managing Research Scientist

Andrew M. Rose, Ph.D., received his degree in experimental and cognitive psychology from the University of Michigan in 1974. Since then, he has been at the American Institutes for Research. His current position is Managing Research Scientist and Chief Scientist of AIR’s Workforce Research and Analysis program. In this position, he is responsible for ensuring the quality of projects and project deliverables, and for ensuring scientific rigor in the conduct of all projects. Further responsibilities include directing research and evaluation projects that focus on the analysis of program effectiveness and performance in applied settings; and designing and conducting field studies, laboratory studies, and theoretical and applied research on communication, cognition, comprehension, and retention. Dr. Rose has been the Principal Investigator for several projects that involved complex development, testing, and evaluation designs implemented in field settings. For example, Dr. Rose was the Project Director for a major study for the Food and Drug Administration to develop and test — in actual blood donation centers — a new, computer-based donor screening system. Related to this effort, he was Principal Investigator for a World Health Organization project to improve the blood transfusion services in developing countries. Dr. Rose and staff did field work in Zimbabwe, Honduras, and India, as a result of these efforts, he was invited to present at the IXth International AIDS Conference in Berlin and to speak at the European Council of Blood Transfusion in Barcelona. Dr. Rose has authored or co-authored over 100 articles, papers, and presentations on his work.
