Jeanne Poduska, Sc.D.

Principal Research Scientist

Dr. Jeanne Poduska is Deputy Director of AIR’s Center for Integrating Education and Prevention Research in Schools and a Principal Research Scientist. She holds an M.S. in education and a Sc.D. in public health, both from Johns Hopkins University. She has been working with communities, schools, and school districts around issues of prevention and mental health services for 14 years. Dr. Poduska is Co-Principal Investigator and the Project Director for a population-based randomized field trial of a preventive intervention in twelve schools. The trial is funded by NIDA with contributions by NICHD and utilizes a developmental epidemiological prevention research strategy aiming a precisely defined intervention at specific early risk factors and employing randomized designs to allow examination of the variation in impact on developmental paths and outcomes. The intervention focuses on integrating behavior management strategies, teacher instructional practices, and family classroom partnerships in first grade towards the goal of improving academic achievement and behavior and preventing later drug abuse, school drop-out, aggressive behavior, and other mental health outcomes. Dr. Poduska is also the Co-PI on several grants funding longitudinal research on three cohorts of children, now teenagers and young adults, who participated in school-based preventive interventions in earlier years. She has adjunct appointments with the Department of Mental Health, Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health and the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, College of Public Health, and the University of South Florida.
