Fiona Innes Helsel, Ph.D.

Senior Research Analyst

Fiona Innes Helsel, Ph.D., has been a Senior Research Analyst at AIR in Washington, DC for the past 3.5 years. In this time, she has served as Project Director for the Evaluation Data Coordination Project for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Innes Helsel is also the Project Director for the ACF Moving Together Project, a curriculum developed to assist ACF employees in their development of core competency skills in communication, collaboration, and cultural competence. Further, she is Project Director for a new contract with the Knight Foundation which is designed to collect updated data on numerous indicators and make it available to the public.

Dr. Innes Helsel also works on the What Works Clearinghouse, a Center conceived by the Department of Education to provide educators, policymakers, and the public with a central, independent, and trusted source of scientific evidence of what works in education. Dr. Innes Helsel further assisted in the development of a Mentoring Guide that has been distributed nation-wide to Head Start and Early Head Start programs and was also a team leader on the Voluntary National Tests Project to examine items for elements of bias and to determine their usability among children with learning disabilities and English as a second language. Dr. Innes Helsel received her Ph.D. in 1999 from the Department of Child Development and Family Studies at Purdue University.
