Bruce A. Christenson, Ph.D.
Principal Research Scientist
Bruce Christenson, Ph.D., received his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Christenson has extensive training in quantitative research methods and demographic analysis. Before joining AIR, he was a post-doctoral research fellow in the Population Studies Center at the University of Michigan. He applies his training and experience in analyzing large-scale survey, census, and demographic data to address substantive issues in employment, education, and health-related research. He has served as project director on large-scale employment litigation cases and regularly serves as a senior analyst on projects involving analyses of employment and personnel records for evidence of age, race, and gender discrimination. In other research related to legal issues, he conducted a study on the unification of trial courts in California. In the field of education research, he recently completed directing a project evaluating the federal government’s Magnet School Assistance Program (MSAP) and is working on another study for the Department of Education to assess the feasibility of conducting an experimentally designed study of magnet schools. He has analyzed the Schools and Staffing Survey data of the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) on projects conducted for the Department of Education. Dr. Christenson has also applied his quantitative and demographic training to analyses of race and education differences in mortality. He has co-authored several journal articles in this area.
