George W. Bohrnstedt

Senior Vice President

George W. Bohrnstedt is Senior Vice President for Research at AIR where he is involved in the development of new programs of research for the organization and brings a deep interest in education policy issues.

Dr. Bohrnstedt currently chairs the National Center for Education Statistics’ NAEP Validity Studies Panel. He also serves as AIR’s senior advisor on AIR’s subcontract on the multi-organization team assembled by the Haan Foundation’s for the evaluation of four programs designed to help struggling readers in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

Formerly, he was the Principal Investigator of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation-funded evaluation of their initiative to create small, personalized high schools and the Co-Principal Investigator of the evaluation of California’s K-3 Class Size reduction program. Prior to that he was the Principal Investigator of the evaluation of the College Board’s Equity 2000 initiative. Dr. Bohrnstedt has served as co-editor of the American Sociological Association’s yearbook, Sociological Methodology and also has been editor and co-editor of Sociological Methods and Research and Social Psychology Quarterly.

He has been honored as a Belding Scholar at the Foundation for Child Development and has been a fellow at Stanford's Center for Advanced Studies in the Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Bohrnstedt currently holds Consulting Professorships in the School of Education and the Department of Sociology at Stanford University. He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin.
