Jane Benbow, Ed.D.
Managing Research Scientist
Dr. Jane Benbow is a Managing Research Scientist and Project Director of the Educational Quality Improvement Program: Classrooms, Schools and Communities (EQUIP 1), a multi-million dollar support mechanism to USAID worldwide. She has more than 20 years experience in designing, implementing and managing training and education programs both in the United States and in nearly a dozen developing countries. Before joining AIR, Dr. Benbow was the Director of Girls’ and Basic Education for CARE USA. She originally joined CARE to implement several pilot education projects designed to involve mothers in the education of their daughters via micro-finance programs. Dr. Benbow was responsible for researching and implementing strategies that ultimately boost girls' education programs in the developing world.
Her primary focus has been in strengthening local community and non-governmental organizations to play a critical role in the education process. She has worked with the Peace Corps, the Ford Foundation, the University of the West Indies, and The Friendship Force. She earned a doctorate in education from the Center for International Education at the University of Massachusetts, an M.A. in community development from Goddard College in Plainville, Vt., and a B.A. in political science and psychology from Guilford College, Greensboro, N.C.
