Stéphane Baldi, Ph.D.
Principal Research Scientist
Dr. Stéphane Baldi is a Principal Research Scientist at the American Institutes for Research (AIR). Dr. Baldi specializes in evaluation design, survey sampling, and the design and analysis of complex survey data. Dr. Baldi has applied his substantive knowledge of study design, evaluation design, and quantitative and qualitative data analysis to the writing of several reports for the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Transportation, and the U.S. Department of State. He currently is Project Director for a study of college students’ literacy skills sponsored by the Pew Charitable Trusts and serves as Technical Advisor for the National Assessment of Adult Literacy.
Over the years, Dr. Baldi has become experienced in managing projects involving large data gathering efforts related to educational programs. He led the analyses for the U.S. component of the International Civic Education Study and served as Project Director on several impact evaluations for the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Prior to re-joining AIR in 2000, Dr. Baldi was an administrator in the Statistics and Indicators Division of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. His research has been presented at national and international conferences and has appeared in a variety of leading scholarly journals, including the American Sociological Review, Journal of Safety Research, The Sociological Quarterly, Work and Occupation, and Social Studies of Science. He received his Ph.D. in sociology from the Ohio State University, with a specific emphasis in research methods and statistics. He is fluent in French and has a good command of spoken and written Italian.
