Dan Aladjem, Ph.D.

Principal Research Scientist

Daniel K. Aladjem is a principal research scientist at AIR and specializes in school reform, the politics of education, state and local educational policy, longitudinal research, and program evaluation. Since 2000 he has directed the National Longitudinal Evaluation of Comprehensive School Reform (NLECSR). NLECSR, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, represents the single largest federal investment in studying comprehensive school reform. It is a quasi-experimental, mixed methods study of the implementation and impact of several externally-developed CSR models as well as the roles of model developers and school districts in supporting urban school improvement. In addition to his work on CSR, he has studied several other school reform initiatives, including small schools, school choice and vouchers, and Title I. Dr. Aladjem also has worked on strategic planning and GPRA-related projects for the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and through that work is familiar with programs throughout ED, especially those of the Offices of Elementary and Secondary Education, Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, English Language Acquisition, Vocational and Adult Education, and the Office for Civil Rights. Dr. Aladjem earned his Ph.D. (public policy/public administration) from the University of Southern California and holds an A.B. (history) and A.M. (education/secondary teaching) from Stanford University.
