AIR’s approach to capacity building is based on wielding a range of technical assistance services to develop people, organizations, and broader systems to improve outcomes.
Working with federal, state, and local agencies, as well as other non-profit organizations, AIR first fully assesses readiness and resources, and then moves to strengthen these organizations’ ability to fulfill mission and to have greater positive impacts on lives and the communities served. To build organizational capacity, we focus on implementation and then on scaling up evidence-based practices and programs.
AIR provides the expertise organizations need to sustain long-term improvements by using the best data and research available to collaboratively design and carry out targeted interventions for specific populations and contexts. Working with clients, AIR uses research-based approaches to support assessment and planning, stakeholder engagement, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of projects and initiatives to improve outcomes.
Through communities of practice, large group presentations, intimate workshops, and extensive use of online tools, AIR consultants and researchers deliver high quality professional development, training, and coaching using evidence-based strategies and adult-learning research. By blending approaches—including in-person and distance-learning training and individualized coaching—AIR supports organizational change and the transfer of knowledge and skills, all suited to meet clients’ specific needs.
To maximize delivery systems’ performance and sustain improvements while fostering changes in behavior and social norms, AIR ensures effective learning and diffusion of critical ideas. From strategic communication planning to results-sharing, AIR’s wide-ranging communications services support strategic goals, stakeholder engagement, improvement of outcomes, and the spread of innovation.
So that organizations can carry out interventions, apply lessons learned from their professional development, or apply specific strategies, AIR develops contextually relevant toolkits, implementation guides, databases, and other successful support tools. Often, the websites, apps, and other products we create are delivered through our professional development services and the management of the technical assistance and resource centers we run.
