Office of Medical Applications of Research
Kathleen Edmunds Cyr - Senior Conference Manager
Since
its establishment in 1978, the NIH Office of Medical Applications of
Research (OMAR) has evaluated biomedical research, communicated findings,
served as a resource both within and beyond NIH, and identified and promoted
means for effective application of research findings throughout health
care delivery. Under the direction of NIH, OMAR delivers the insights
and tools of research to the real world of medical practice. AIR has
been a partner in the effort almost from the beginning.
Most notably, OMAR, with AIR’s support, has established the Consensus Development Program that has resulted in a distinguished series of internationally known Consensus Development Conferences (CDCs), now numbering 115. OMAR’s dissemination activities for both its Consensus Development Program and other TA programs include formal statements that are routinely published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Through the CDCs, medical technologies are evaluated by specialists, generalists, and other non-Federal health care professionals and consumers in an open forum, with conclusions and recommendations then disseminated to the health care community, policymakers, and the public. Live Webcasts of CDCs have been beamed via satellite around the country and the world.
Kathleen Edmunds Cyr, a Senior Conference Manager at AIR, is the project director. She has more than 15 years experience providing planning and logistical support for major events. AIR has supported 76 CDCs across an 18-year period of service.
In addition to providing OMAR with technical support, Kathleen is responsible for the quality, efficiency, and productivity of services provided by conference staff supporting OMAR. She ensures delivery of high-quality products and services to OMAR.
