News: African American and Hispanic Ph.D. Science Graduates Are More Likely to Accrue Debt than Their White and Asian Peers, Study Finds
African Americans and Hispanics are more likely to go into debt while earning a doctorate in the sciences than their white and Asian counterparts, according to a new issue brief by experts at the American Institutes for Research (AIR). The disparity is largest for African Americans, who are twice as likely to accrue more than $30,000 in debt.

News: Report: In Texas, First-Year Income of Certificate Holders Can Exceed Earnings of Those with Associate’s or Bachelor’s
A report comparing the first-year earnings of graduates with two-year and four-year degrees – as well as those with master’s and certificates – from public colleges and universities in Texas finds that the median first-year earnings of certificate holders often exceeds those of graduates from associate’s programs.

Dr. Kristin Carman, a senior health researcher at AIR, has been appointed by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to serve on its Advisory Panel on Patient Engagement. PCORI is an independent organization authorized by Congress to provide research that can inform health consumers and engaging them in the research process.

News: New Online Resources Help Couples Navigate Relationships After Traumatic Brain Injury
Free online resources to help couples deal with the challenges created when one of them suffers a traumatic brain injury (TBI) are now available on the federally-funded Model Systems Knowledge Translations Center (MSKTC) website to help both partners navigate changes in their relationship. The MSKTC, which developed the Relationships After Traumatic Brain Injury hot topic module, is operated by AIR in collaboration with WETA/BrainLine and George Mason University under a grant from NIDRR.

News: First Year Earnings of Recent College Graduates in Colorado Vary Widely, Depending Upon Their School and Their Degree, New Report Finds
A new report conducted by AIR's Mark Schneider shows there is wide variation in the income of recent graduates of Colorado’s colleges and universities, with those receiving an Associate of Applied Sciences degree typically earning more than those with a Bachelor’s degree during their first year in the workforce.
