Main Office - Washington, D.C.

AIR's main office is centrally located north of Washington Harbor at the Potomac River, east of Rock Creek Park, west of the Kennedy Center, and just south of Georgetown’s shopping hub.

One of the major advantages of our location is its proximity to international organizations and federal government decision-makers.

Our work

Our research shapes the policy and practices of service providers from the federal to the local level, both nationally and internationally. A large portion of our focus is on early childhood, children's mental health, and education. Our work includes research on issues in school reform, children with special needs, adult education and literacy, the Head Start program, technology, and international finance. Our projects include assessment, evaluation, test development, and survey and software design.

The main office is also home to the historical core work of AIR, studies of human and organizational performance. Originally focusing on testing, training, and selection, over the past 35 years we have has been involved in several of the most significant social science research efforts ever conducted in the United States. These include the Armed Services' Job Performance Measurement Project and the Department of Labor's reinvention of the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, developing the new Occupational Information System (O*NET).

Also at this site, we collaborate with ministries of education, non-government organizations, and other development partners to provide technical assistance to many countries in Africa, Latin America, and Asia in the areas of girls' education, curriculum and teacher training, and basic education promotion.

Our staff

Our staff is a group of exceptionally adaptable and dedicated individuals. Our employees are diverse in academic background and professional experience, as well as in nationality and culture. This diversity enriches the office and our work.

Professional development and social life

There are always opportunities for socializing and professional development. Members of our staff offer in-house professional development training as well as ongoing athletic, social, and consciousness-raising activities. Our staff meetings include updates on recent work and other professional interests, and we regularly schedule brown-bag lunch talks that focus on technology-related topics. Monthly analyst course segments and other professional development tools are specifically tailored to our environment.

Professional growth is encouraged, and employees are never limited to a specific area of research. A large variety of available projects exposes our staff members to a variety of managers and managerial styles, and allows them to strengthen and obtain new skills.
