AIR's work with host-country partners often centers on important questions and emerging issues. Examples include:

  • How can reform programs be designed to ensure that the people most affected by reform are involved in designing and implementing the reform?
  • How can information about education indicators, policies, and practices be disseminated and incorporated into reform efforts to make the most impact in a country?
  • What changes in curriculum and teacher training will most effectively promote education for marginalized populations – girls, disabled, indigenous language groups, child laborers, etc.?
  • What interventions most effectively mitigate the devastating effects of catastrophic illnesses such as malaria and HIV/AIDS on the teaching population and school-going children?
  • What effects do changes in teaching and learning practices have on knowledge acquisition and learning outcomes?

AIR has worked to address similar questions and issues throughout the world, with considerable experience in Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. At the same time, we continue to provide the U.S. Department of Education with comparative international analysis of education systems, collaborating with members of international groups.
