Inclusive Development

Inclusive development focuses on the meaningful inclusion of people with disabilities and their organizations in development cooperation. People with disabilities and other vulnerable groups are often invisible to donors and implementers.

As a leader in the area, AIR supports and encourages disability leaders and experts to have a “seat at the table” in program design and provide technical resources in program implementation.

Inclusive development applies to marginalized populations, including women, ethnic or linguistic minorities, and others whose voice is often not heard.

  • Video: She Looks Back

    AIR is partnering with local organizations to increase educational opportunities for girls in Liberia. The video She Looks Back features compelling first-hand accounts of what life is like for girls in post-conflict Liberia who are struggling to better their lives.

  • Report: Inclusive Education in Pakistan: Experiences and Lessons Learned from the ENGAGE Project

    The purpose of the ENGAGE Project in Pakistan was to increase the participation of Disabled People’s Organizations and people with disabilities in the planning and implementation of development efforts.

  • Report: Vulnerability for Households with Persons with Disabilities and HIV/AIDS in Chongwe, Zambia

    Little research has been done to understand the interplay between HIV/AIDS and disability at the household or community level, either nationally or globally. This pilot study is only the first of many necessary steps to understand the complex and little researched relationship between HIV/AIDS and disability.
