    Report: Impact of Two Professional Development Interventions on Early Reading Instruction and Achievement Report

    To help states and districts make informed decisions about the professional development (PD) they implement to improve reading instruction, the U.S. Department of Education commissioned the Early Reading PD Interventions Study to examine the impact of two research-based PD interventions for reading instruction. This report describes the implementation of the PD interventions tested, and examines their impacts at the end of the year the PD was delivered.

    Report: Postsecondary Career/Technical Education: Changes in the Number of Offering Institutions and Awarded Credentials from 1997 to 2006

    This brief provides a more in-depth view of the diverse subbaccalaureate sector. Specifically, the brief examines changes among less than-four-year Title IV postsecondary institutions, looking at the number of institutions that offer CTE and the number of subbaccalaureate CTE credentials (certificates and associate’s degrees) these institutions award.

    Report: Eighth Grade: First Findings from the ECLS-K

    This First Look used data collected from the final round of the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Kindergarten Class of 1998-99 (ECLS-K) when most of the cohort was in the eighth grade. This project was intended to provide a snapshot of the eighth-grade round of the ECLS-K and make the data available to encourage more in-depth analysis using more sophisticated statistical methods.

    The Cleveland Metropolitan School District and the mayor of Cleveland asked AIR to conduct an independent gaps analysis and to make recommendations regarding what can be done in Cleveland’s schools and by its mental health and other community agencies to improve the connectedness that students have to school, as well as their mental wellness and safety.

    Report: Education and Certification Qualifications of Departmentalized Public High-School Level Teachers of Core Subjects: Evidence from the 2003-04 Schools a

    This Statistical Analysis Report examines the percentage of public school teachers who held an in-field postsecondary major, in-field certification, or both, in a selection of high-school level main assignment fields. Teachers of these subjects were considered to be in-field majors if they held a major that they had earned at the bachelor's degree level or higher in the subject(s) that they taught.

    Report: Revenues and Expenditures by Public School Districts: School Year 2005-06 (Fiscal Year 2006)

    This report presents data from the School District Finance Survey for School Year 2005-06 (fiscal year 2006, or FY 06). The School District Finance Survey is a district-level survey that consists of data submitted annually to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) by state education agencies (SEAs) in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. All financial transactions associated with assets, expenditures, revenues, and indebtedness are accounted for, including revenues from federal, state, and local sources and expenditures in categories such as instruction and instruction-related activities, student support services, administration, operation, capital outlay, and debt services.

    Report: Characteristics of the 100 Largest Public Elementary and Secondary School Districts in the United States

    This report is released annually and provides basic information from the Common Core of Data (CCD) about the nation's largest public school districts. The data include such characteristics as the number of students and teachers, number of high school completers and the averaged freshman graduation rate, and revenues and expenditures.
