    AIR Convenes the U.S. Department of Education’s Connected Educator Month

    August is Connected Educator Month, an effort by the U.S. Department of Education to encourage teachers and school administrators across the country to participate in online learning communities and networks to enhance their professional development. AIR is supporting the month-long endeavor by coordinating more than 250 events, including online forums, webinars, blog discussions, online chats, podcasts and other interactive options that explore online learning issues.

    The Teaching Excellence in Adult Literacy (TEAL) Center, funded by the Office of Vocational and Adult Education of the U.S. Department of Education, is designed to improve the quality of teaching in adult education in the content areas.

    The Department of Education has contracted AIR to evaluate the impact of the use of a literacy-focused workbook in English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction on adult learners.

    Promoting Program Accountability in Adult Education

    AIR has helped develop the National Reporting System for Adult Education (NRS). In the fourth phase of support, AIR is continuing to improve data quality, use, and monitoring, as well helping implement any changes to the NRS due to Federal legislation.

    Transitioning English Language Learners (TELL)

    The Transitioning English Language Learners (TELL) Project is designed to examine and describe policies and instructional and programmatic strategies that support advanced adult English language learners' continued development of English proficiency as well as cognitive academic language proficiency in order to successfully transfer into adult basic education or adult secondary education, complete a high school equivalency program, and become prepared for postsecondary education and the 21st century workplace.
