Early Childhood and Child Development

AIR's early childhood development research focuses on the development of programs and policies that aid young children and their families.

We have been instrumental in conducting many large-scale studies of early care and education programs for states and the federal government. We also help design results-based accountability systems for child development programs, including program quality standards, program assessment, and child outcomes.

AIR conducts statewide assessments of supply and demand for preschool and infant/toddler services. Our Preschool Cost Estimator helps determine the funds needed to phase in quality programs, beginning in neighborhoods of greatest need.
